About

I started doing triathlons roughly 20 years and stopped when my kids got to an age where they needed me more than I needed to race. I finally pursued my first Ironman after the youngest went to college.

Philosophy

I have always lived by the motto: It is a shame for {someone} to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable. – Socrates. We all have strengths and weaknesses. Likewise, we all have some core level of technique in all three disciplines of triathlons. I like to take your strengths and build from there. I will always look for the positives and make them stronger, analyze your weaknesses and figure out how to change them to strengths. Throughout my years of coaching and financial planning I have learned and practiced around the notion that we are all unique and we must be treated as such. While one athlete may benefit from one drill, another athlete may completely be fine without it. All interactions are tailored to the athlete’s specific needs and goals.

Experience

I started coaching swimming when I was in college for the Lubbock swim club. During my four years of coaching, I was nominated West Texas All Star coach for two years and was also sent to the Olympic Training center in Colorado Springs for a week to learn from the Olympic swim coach with other coaches across the nation. I coached many levels of swimmers ranging from age group swimmers (developmental) to swimmers that qualified for Jr. Nationals. A few years after I quite coaching, I was offered a collegiate assistant coaching position but declined the offer to pursue a career in financial planning. Over the last twenty years I coached both youth and adult soccer and have dabbled in training a few friends in Triathlons. Eventually, after a few conversations with my wife and kids, I decided that I should pursue coaching again. It is something that I have always gravitated to. Most simply put, I love watching people pursue and achieve their goals. I was born and raised in the great state of Texas! I have lived in Minnesota and Florida, but Texas is my home. After attending the LBJ Science Academy of Austin Texas for high school, I attended Texas Tech University, where I received a dual major in Mathematics and Psychology with a minor in classical studies. After college I immediately started working in the investment industry as a financial planner and continue to do so today. My wife and I have been married for close to 13 years, and I will say she is the real ironman in the family. I just wish I could get her to do a race. Between the two of us we have 5 kids, which are all grown and out of the house. Since becoming empty nesters, I have found time to pursue other passions, such as triathlons, which has led me here.
