Ironman racing is a committment and athletes need someone with experience, education, and empathy when looking for a coach. In my experience I have had successes and failures, when it comes to working through a DNF or making a comeback I can help. Or maybe this is your first event and looking for something to challenge you but still have a successful day I can help you there too.I have worked hard to learn as much as possible about the body and endurance sports and believe that education is never ending.Empathy is a big part of training and coaching, athletes need someone to encourage them to test themselves, understand that fatigue and frustration will happen but also to understand that's part of the process. Not every day will be easy and not every mile will come naturally, you need someone to help you navigate when to push and when to rest for a successful training day and, ultimately, race day.
Philosophy
When it comes to coaching I have a 3-tier approach: Injury free, enjoy the process, and committments from yourself and family. Number 1 is to do the training designed for your body, needs, and ability (not someone else's or a generic plan from the internet). With this training it is critical to stay injury free and focus on daily recovery needs to be able to nail the next training session. If you aren't having fun why are you doing it? Yes, there will be days or sessions that aren't as fun or motivating as the others, but in the long run triathlon should be sport you want to do. And as soon as that passion is missing we have to revaluate to make sure you aren't over-reaching, burning out, or just missing something else along the way.Getting committment from yourself and support crew is huge factor in a successful triathlon journey. The time required to training and recover from 70.3 or 140.6 distance racing is significant and your family, co-workers, friends, and even training buddies need to understand the time (both daily and the months) leading up to the big day is an important part of your success.
