About

Hi, I'm Coach Jake! I am a lifelong athlete who grew up competing in every sport possible in my small, northern Michigan hometown. My triathlon journey began in 2011 when I competed in my first sprint event. From showing up to my first pool swim in a Hawaiian-printed bathing suit to taking 3rd overall in a community organized 140.6, I have experienced immense personal growth and have enjoyed numerous incredible adventures thanks to the sport. Joining the TriDot Ambassador team in 2020 initiated my efforts to give back to the community that has provided me with so much. Being a coach is a great privilege as I get to help fellow athletes experience transformational journeys and, ultimately, achieve their fitness goals!

Philosophy

Sports have given me so much in life; my goal as a coach is help others achieve those elusive moments of pure bliss that only sports can provide. I am passionate about taking a holistic approach to training and health. This means considering physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual factors to create a sustainable plan. As a fellow athlete, I appreciate the challenges of managing family, work, training, and numerous other life commitments. My grandma always said that you have to plan your work, so you can work your plan and that is what I will help you do. All I ask is that you heed Prefontaine's words "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift". After all, you can't achieve greatness unless you try! How my team approaches triathlon: -- Physically: We do the right training right! The TriDot platform is truly unrivaled as an optimized training plan which, when implemented fully, WILL help to achieve your goals. Nutrition is rightfully considered the 4th discipline of triathlon, so I will help you in creating a balanced diet which is an essential part of the process. -- Mentally: People participate in this sport for a variety of reasons, but all triathletes know the power of mental strength. Whether you currently have experience in the sport or not, I will continuously support the growth of your mental health. -- Emotionally: Everyone is on their own, unique journey that is filled with highs and lows. My objective as a coach is to be a steady presence that allows you to be consistent with your training, so that you continue making progress regardless of external challenges. -- Socially: If you are an experienced triathlete, hopefully you have already felt the support of the sporting community. The TriDot team takes this to another level. This will become immediately apparent upon joining our online group and interacting with the thousands of triathletes who are regularly sharing stories of struggles and successes. You will also be able to connect with fellow TriDotter support groups at many events around the world. -- Spiritually: No other sport connects athletes to mother nature as much as triathlon. Regardless of your beliefs, we will all enjoy the transformation that is possible thanks to the earth and water that allows our sport to exist. My triathlon coaching offer (what I do for you!): -- Advise you on triathlon training and race strategy -- Review and customize your weekly training plan to ensure it fits with your schedule -- Provide feedback on important workouts and recommendations for future improvements -- Answer questions via email, text, or phone call -- Work remotely with athletes anywhere you (or I) might be in the world -- Offer over a decade of experience to help you minimize mistakes and maximize your potential!

Experience

Having been a competitive athlete my entire life, I am always looking for my next adventure and challenge. In 2011 I decided that would be the sport of triathlon. I entered my first local sprint not knowing how to swim beyond a doggy paddle and rocking my hybrid cruiser bike from high school. I have come a long way from the kid who showed up to his first lap swim in a flower printed swim suit and no goggles! Fortunately, I have received a lot of help from the triathlon community and now am able to condense and package all of those lessons into coaching athletes to complete your first sprint triathlon, win a local race, or cross the finish of a full distance event with a smile on your face! Triathlon has so much to offer and I want to help you prepare in a manner that is engaging, safe, and sustainable for many years to come!
